PITCOIN

Prypto music currency is officially in circulation!
Pitbull drops a wallet full of 24 freshly minted tracks on the release of his fourteenth studio album PITCOIN – but is it worth the download investment? Let’s break it down.
Perhaps the biggest surprise and best kept secret of the entire album is the is the first, Reach for the Stars featuring KISS. A spin on Kiss’s original 1975 hit Rock and Roll All Nite – both versions sampled by Twisted Sister I Wanna Rock, (1984) – Big stealth energy and not even a pre-teaser! Keeping with the rock anthem theme, crowd pleaser Now or Never with Bon Jovi is also on this 24-track album.
Pitbull has certainly collected genre-wide coins for this album. Almost a BIT of everything from every genre and generation. Seems like Pitbull goes through collecting Country onto bagging Rock anthems. Pitbull’s collab with Filmore Yeehaw also makes an appearance on the album along with a new track with Filmore ‘Drink Alone.’ Partying, fun, friendship, togetherness and not drinking alone – unless you keep playing games and you gon’ end up drinking alone ! More club than Country vibe, a little reminiscent of Tamo Bien which also features on the album. Which is unsurprising with both having the same producers – I Am Chino on both songs.
As the listening party of one gains momentum, it’s no fireball but the temperature begins to as rise Que Calor drops. Infectious and catchy with Akon. Elevating Major Lazer, J Balvin and El Alfa’s sounds on the same title to a new dimension. Brought back Akon and recycled the same lyrics in a previous collab together on Shut it Down (Rebelution) Sube, sube, hasta la nube! As Mr Worldwide goes all Nelly on us elsewhere.
Gente de Zona dance their way onto album with Gringa Repartera. The song samples Elvis Manuel’s timeless song La Tuba. With an a familiar Gente de Zona trademark sound on how the ‘gringa’ doesn’t understand Spanish but that doesn’t stop her going for a Cuban and vice versa!
Talking of samples, 123 Back it up (Jump on it) gets the hips activated and is heavily spun on the chorus of Sugarhill Gang’s Apache and a softer original version by The Shadows in 1960 previously.
Initial first scroll over the album comes Me Paraste el Corazón- which did exactly that with added screams of muevelo! muevelo! Featuring Enrique Iglesias, the track feels like a love story, heartbreaking obsession without the story unfolding. The song had me hooked from the start with its arresting trumpet intro. An infectious Latin crossover banger brought to us by Whites Star, Victor Cardenas (The ‘Pepas’ guys) and I am Chino to name a few.
(Note: Chino is all over the album either behind the mic or infront of it on production).
While we’re talking about White Star the artist-producer-songwriter’s influence can be heard on a few other tracks such as Melao featuring Zion, storming back a merenge-fied old sample of Alexandra Stan’s Mr. Saxo beat where Latin meets Euro pop. And No Es Mi Problema which stems from a sampler of Louis Alfonso and Combo de Mulalo’s track of the same title infused with bomba caucana / bomba patiana vibes. No Es Mi Problema gathers Pitbull’s in-house and on-stage team, with many of The Agents credited on the track such as Carlos Palmet, Ronald Feliz-Veloz, Rafael Valencia, Jorge Gomez and Papayo – A full house! This track is also special to fans as Papayo Pitbull’s original percussionist who also brought us Latin Grammy winning track Echa Pa’lla is back on the scene!
By the first three bars of Por Tenerte, I was already singing Jon Secada’s 90’s hit Just Another Day. Lenier brings a smooth, seductive vocal vibe to the track with his distinctive vocals. Giving an old song a fresh dimension. Producers and composer of this silky, emotion stirring track include Chris Daniel, Vinny Venditto, Chino, and Karen Rodriguez to name a few.
Tremenda Salsita gives off a captivating rhythm which bypasses the brain and gets the front toe taps going – then straight into basic straight into the basic forward steps counts! Lenier! I have missed Lenier’s dulcet tones. This song fits perfectly!
By now the true fans know that Pitbull loves going swimming with the pigs – not literally. He loves the Exhumas! In The Bahamas gives a break from all the high energy tracks on the album and ooze’s smooth, vacation happy clappy vibes.
MIA Anthem serves up Miami Royalty – Their Royal Highnesses Pitbull and DJ Laz with a high energy Miami booty bass and everything else all things Miami mashed up in the track.
Que se Encuere should come with a ‘highly contagious’ warning. High energy track that likely has everyone ‘stripping off’ all inhibitions. Infused with Miami bass, dance and electronic.
Pitbull has brought his on-stage team to in studio where we have a Chino and also Ralfy.v – Rafael Valencia going from bass guitarist to turning up the bass (a lot!) on this track.
Many other pre-released and reviewed songs already appear on the album such as Damn I Love Miami, Privacy, Satalanaa, Tamo Bien, Work, Yeehaw, No Te Hagas, Now or Never, 2 The Moon. Amongst other fresh sounds.
OVERALL
Pitbull brings in many from on stage to in studio where you can find I Am Chino everywhere ( and it dawns upon me just how much time they must spend together!). Along with many of The Agents credited all over the credits of this album, as Pitbull keeps it all in-house. Nurturing talent and creating opportunities all round.
It wouldn’t be a Pitbull album without approximately 70% of the album sampled from other songs- but it works! Pitcoin presents an exceptional array of talented artists, producers and writers- each bring their own distinctive artistry to the table. Thus, giving Pitcoin its rich, diverse and compelling sound. With unapologetic and unmatched energy, PITCOIN spans across genres to generations, there is something for everyone’s ears to indulge in.
It’s in Pitbull’s job description to make fans dance, forget your troubles and stay in the moment – and he certainly does that with the incredible songs and talented team behind the album.
Dale!
